Nice idea, poor product. I have had 5 of these fail on me with only a few months use. The lever becomes very stiff. Eventually the linkage inside the stopper breaks rendering the lever useless. OXO customer service sent immediate replacements however all the replacements have failed as well. It’s time for OXO to go back to the drawing board on this one!
Generally speaking, I have found OXO products to be superb. This item does not achieve that standard. It is handsomely designed, but it doesn’t hold up under even semi-regular use. The little ballbearing dealie inside quits rotating, the lever stiffens up, and the whole thing becomes only useful as a cork.
I have had two, both have now been returned as defective, and my S.O. just got off the phone with OXO informing them that this object is unsatisfactory.
I hope they will get it right with a redesign.
Rather disappointing for an Oxo product. It is attractive, but as a pourer, it is slow and as a stopper, it does not seal well enough to lay the bottle down. I will keep looking for the “Perfect” stopper-pourer. This one isn’t it!
So I normally have found oxo to have great products, however, not this one. The closing apparatus broke on me quite quickly. I DO NOT recommend this.
I picked this up while holiday shopping at Sur La Table. What a disappointment. If I could find my receipt, I’d definitely return it. Here’s why: 1) It doesn’t work as a stopper. After just the second use, it would leak from the sides WHILE POURING. The circumference is simply too small (and I’ve tried a variety of wine bottles) and the material it’s made of is too hard and not malleable enough. 2) It doesn’t work as a pourer. If it wasn’t leaking so much from the sides, you may notice that it’s also leaking from the hinged parts where the lever action is. The only good thing I CAN say about it is that it didn’t drip from the lip of the pourer and it only cost ten bucks. Now I see why. If it worked as promised, it would be a sensational product and I would probably pay twice this amount for it, because the idea is great. But, it fails miserably on all counts.
