What Is a Good Wine to Serve at a Wedding Reception?

by Sommelier on May 30, 2010

We are just serving beer and wine at our reception. I am not a wine person so I need to know a decent white and red wine.

What’s your budget?
How many drinkers?
Any other alcohol?

Keep this all in mind and we (as a group) can probably give you some ideas.

I would say Merlot or Riesling

Barefoot is my favorite low-mid range wine. I’d go with the cabernet sauvignon (red) and the chardonay (white). Best wishes!

How about sparkling. Check out Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee.

One white, one red. Pinot noir for red and a reisling or pinot grigio for white.

Yes on white and red. Not knowing where you live, I cannot tell you should you should get. BUT: Some people think they have to spend good money for everything at a weeding. Some thing is not important, and wine is one of them. Unless all your guest that read “Wine Spectator”, save your money. Look for the best deal you can find.

ALSO: If you are buying several cases (3+), some places will give you a big discount if you order it in advance. To them, it is easy money as they do not need to stock it. It will move from the truck to your car.

Ten years from now, when you look back at your weeding, you will not remember the wine.

Your best bet is a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon. They are the most popular wine in the US.
