How Much Wine Will We Need for a Reception of About 200 People?

Not everyone will be drinking wine, as there will be children attending. As well as other drinks at a tended bar. We are planning on using boxed wines, probally a red , and white. Which wines are most popular.

Pinot Noir and Merlot for red. Pinot grigio, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel for whites. You can get them all in a box. Check with your local liquor store about discounts for buying by the case. If you talk to the owner they will usually give you a great deal for buying bulk and may even order it special for you. Good luck!

Glad to hear that you’re going with the boxed wines! They’re actually quite good and get a lot of mileage. Another choice is a very good, and very popular brand at Trader Joes called Charles Shaw (or 2 Buck Chuck). It comes in Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay and costs about $1.99 per bottle. If you go with bottled wine, plan on 1 bottle per 2 people. If you go for the box, and Almaden is a good brand by the way, plan on each person having a 4 – 6 oz serving. Mondavi is another brand to try but harder to find, and you might consider a Gallo. Also, have a few bottles of sparkling cider on hand for those that don’t drink and plenty of soft drinks and bottled water. Shopping at a place like Costco or Sam’s is great because you can buy in bulk for cheap! Good luck and congratulations!
