Back to the drawing board. October 13, 2008 The lower two shelves are shorter than the others, this is due to the design and placement of the motor and refrigeration unit. This means that the unit will never be able to hold 30 bottles. The standard size bottle of wine holds 750ml, which means they are all displace the same space, although in different dimensions. Any bottle short enough to fit in the lower shelves will be too wide to fit 5 across, any thin enough to fit 5 across will be too long. It only has 6 shelves, which means to fit 30 you must get 5 bottles on each shelf, and that won't happen.br /br /In addition I was really disappointed that the dual zones have a programmable range of only 4 degrees (6-10c in the lower section and 10-14c in the upper section) and the zones are not interchangeable. As I own more reds than whites, I had planned to use the larger section for my reds. However, this is more an inconvenient lack of a feature, and not nearly as important as the blatant design flaw/false advertising of it's capacity, and therefore it's function.br /br /I only hope it doesn't fail after a week like so many others, and am glad I got the 3 year extended warranty from RC Willey. The only reason I am not returning it is because it would cost me $55 to have them pick it up, and I would have to take another half day off work to do that. It will do well enough until I get my annual bonus and get a better and larger unit and this one will go on Craigslist.br /br /Trust me, buy something else, unless you want a 24-26 bottle unit and pray you get at least 8 short fat bottles to put on the bottom shelves.
wow! i'm surprised at all the negative feedback! it works great for me! October 2, 2008 i'm shocked at the reviews. i've never had a single problem with mine. no condensation, no heating issue, the dual temperature sections work great. it's not noisy at all; i barely notice it. i'm quite frankly confused and wonder if Danby put out a crummy lot at one time but fixed the issue? anyway, i'm not one to post reviews, but figured i would at least give the other side from a completely satisfied customer.
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June 9, 2008 I bought this product around Christmas 2007 - the unit just broke - not even 6 months old!! I have very decent wines and champagnes ruined as this unit stopped working. If you read the Danby warranty, ruined wines are not covered. Paying over $ 300.00 for unit that worked no more than 6 months is an absolute disgrace. Danby probably spent no more than br /$ 30.00 to make this junk in China - once again another piece of junk from China. Wine needs long term storage - otherwise, why buy a wine refrigerator? - I guess Danby feels putting out a junk product lasting 6 months is quality. If you want to ruin some good wines and champagnes, please buy this product. I contacted Danby representatives and was treated very rudely - they could care less. Save your money!! Forced to give one star by AMazon but this is truly a 0 star.
Horrible customer service November 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not by Danby anything! I made several calls after my 50 bottle cooler went out. Danby kept refering me to a local service rep who would not come out because they simply don't like dealing with Danby. Every time I called Danby they tried to transfer my call until I got the voice mail. Even though I talked to the same person every time, they acted like they were talking to me for the first time. Many hours of frustration and time that I will never get back. Stay away!!!
Worked for 1 year August 4, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wine cooler looks good, is priced right, bit at the end of the day, you get what you pay for! Mine worked okay for about 1 year, and then quit cooling. After a service call that I arranged, the serviceman said that because this unit DOES NOT have a fan, it needs to be in an open area w/ clearance on all sides. Well our unit is built-in under a counter, next to a cabinet and wall. No one from Best Buy mentioned this minor detail! Because the unit gets so hot, a seal broke and all the freon leaked out. My serviceman said Danby will replace it, but expect the same thing to happen again unless I relocate it...yea right. I guess I look for a wine cooler w/ a fan and sell the replacement I will receive on EBAY!
